Must See: Hourglass Brewery; Longwood, FL

It’s a fact – Jason has one of the biggest and most complicated family trees possible. Every time we meet up with his fam I ended up meeting 5-10 new people. So, it came as no surprise when Jason told me we were taking a break from sanding to go to dinner with his cousin Larry that it turned into a huge affair. Twelve people, one baby and a few bottles of wine later we were all getting a history lesson in how everyone was related. After dinner we headed over to Hourglass Brewery in Longwood to continue getting to know Jason’s long lost relatives.

{Explaining the fermenting process}

I’m not sure if it was the fact that Jason’s cousin is a regular or that a small business really knows how to host their customers but we got the royal treatment! In between beer flights we got to tour their setup. As a micro brewery, the area was small – just one room – but it was enough to brew some delicious brews!

Their tap room is even smaller than the brewery with only bar stools for seating. On warm nights you can head out to their beer garden and drink the night away.

When we were there they had 7 of their own brews on the menu and 3 guest brews. They serve pints, beer flights and growlers (if you are lucky enough to grab one of the limited number growlers). The flights are great as you can taste five different beers at a time. Or, if you’re like Jason you get two flights and taste every last beer on tap. Of all the brews I was surprised my favorite was their Milk Stout, Handlebar. I typically gravitate to lighter beers but this dark brew really hit the spot! I am definitely not a beer connoisseur, so I can’t tell you the different notes the beer had. But, I can tell you it was delicious and you should try it.

I heard a rumor that they are even working on a gallon size growlers and bottling their beers. I know I’ll be stocking up on Handlebar for our sail.
